Instructions for Authors

As the flagship journal of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, IIE Transactions publishes original high-quality papers on a wide range of topics of interest to industrial engineers who want to remain current with the state-of-the-art technologies. The refereed journal aims to foster a rich exchange among researchers and practitioners the industrial engineering community by publishing papers with a strong methodological focus motivated by real problems that impact engineering practice and research. Published monthly, the journal is composed of four focus issues: Design and Manufacturing, Operations Engineering, Quality and Reliability Engineering, and Scheduling and Logistics.

IIE Transactions encourages research motivated by critical and complex engineering problems that arise in a wide variety of domains including manufacturing, service, public policy, health care, security, biotechnology, transportation, and others. The journal publishes papers that integrate industrial engineering with other disciplines including operations research, statistics, other engineering disciplines, computer science, and basic sciences.  Articles covering new methodologies and state-of-the-art surveys are included in the journal.

To submit an article, go to our online manuscript submission and tracking system, Scholar One's Manuscript Central, at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tandf/iietransactions. If you have an account, enter your username and password and click “Author Center;” otherwise follow the system prompts to create an account. To upload a new manuscript for review, click “Submit a Manuscript.” You will be asked to select the most appropriate Focus Issue: Design and Manufacturing, Operations Engineering, Quality and Reliability Engineering, or Scheduling and Logistics. The Focus Issue Editor will assign your paper to a Department Editor who is your contact person regarding this submission and the review process. At any time, you may logout and return later to complete the submission process. To open a manuscript and complete the submission, login and click “Un-submitted Manuscripts” under “My Manuscripts.”

During the submission process, you will be required to certify that the manuscript (1) is not under review at any other journal and will not be submitted to another journal until IIE Transactions makes an editorial decision regarding the paper; (2) has not been published in any other journal; and (3) cites the authors' papers on topics closely related to this submission, published, in press, or in working paper form.

The Manuscript Central helpline is (434)817-2040 or mc3support@ScholarOne.com
